Sawyer Program
About the Program
Clearing the way.
Washington's trails are managed under USFS and DNR agreements that require specific certifications to use chainsaws on public lands. Evergreen's Sawyer Program trains and certifies volunteer trail workers to safely remove wind-thrown trees — keeping trails open and rideable after storms.
The program operates through all nine chapters, with regional sawyer crews who can be dispatched quickly when a trail is blocked. It's funded by member dues, donations, and the volunteers who show up with their own certifications and equipment.

Found a tree?
Tell us.
The fastest way to get a crew dispatched is to report with photos and a precise location. Include trail name, approximate mileage marker, tree size (trunk diameter), and whether it's a full-trail block or passable on foot.
